The Saturday Service January 2, 2021

Podcast Notes

B! (Mad World, Tears for Fears) – bit of tech problems but hey, we’re together :)
00:00 – 01:59 – Welcome
02:00 – 09:06 – :quote: “One must stand with one’s mouth open for a very long time before roast duck flies in. “ Anon – Chinese proverb. Bad dad jokes. Explanation of why we have the Saturday session for adults only, because we know some kids (NAMES REDACTED) are attending to see how naughty parents are :) . Language is used to emphasize points.
09:07 – 11:01 – Did anyone take advantage of the duo to check in with each other before Xmas? Are you still?
11:02 – 28:59 – Quoteth rB:
“We are more defensive instead of being more proactive”
What are our default settings? Eg: to feel alone.
If we got off our default settings, how long would it take to realize that we are not alone? Like showing up for Saturday service, for example.
Or default settings could be avoiding responsibility.
Or judgement over understanding?
Default setting: everything should come to me (a la quote of duck flying in mouth)? Perchance? Better self is to do another thing?
5 different qualities of a spiritual life review:
  1. Questions are more important than answers
  2. Some connection to the infinite
  3. Allow yourself to be changed
  4. It’s not all about me.
  5. Hierarchy of values
29:00 – 32:34 – Prayers for those who need them.
32:35 – 43:25 – Breakout rooms for discuss…this is my default setting and I’d like to have another one. Then discussion afterwards.
43:26 – 48:34 – Announcements:

48:35 – 50:41 – Homework – How can we live through all of this with love?
  1. Stay present
  2. Kind
  3. Be Patient
  4. Get Vulnerable (Get, as in not the default to HAVE, active verb)
  5. Not judge
50:42 – 56:40 – Blaise Pascal: Either you believe in something or not…4 options…
UGH: “Either Christianity is true or it’s false. If you bet that it’s true, and you believe in God and submit to Him, then if it IS true, you’ve gained God, heaven, and everything else. If it’s false, you’ve lost nothing, but you’ve had a good life marked by peace and the illusion that ultimately, everything makes sense. If you bet that Christianity is not true, and it’s false, you’ve lost nothing. But if you bet that it’s false, and it turns out to be true, you’ve lost everything and you get to spend eternity in hell.”
eg: Santa. If you believe in Santa, Xmas is awesome. If you believe in Santa and he doesn’t exist, you get coal. If you don’t believe in Santa and he exists,
Is Isn’t
Believe + +
Don’t – 0
56:41 – 58:30 – What are you taking away from today’s session? To get through all this with love. We are not alone. If all else fails, REBOOT! Re: Diversity, have you attended an online service with another religion lately?

May. I have patience? Beloved, It’s May. Which is, pardon the bad pun, A-may-zing. The calendar seems to have flipped from March to May instantly.
