“Can I divorce my parents?”

That is what the young girl said to me.

Lord. She wanted to divorce her mother and father.

Her parents had abused her in many terrible ways as a child and they continued to do so to this very day.

She felt that she was forever bound to them because they had given birth to her several years ago.

Her parents thought that by giving birth to her they were permitted and entitled to brutalize her.

This grieving, wounded girl didn’t understand that her parents had already divorced her through their abusive conduct. Their parental contract had already been broken by their shameful behavior. The names ‘mother’ and ‘father’ were no longer appropriate names for them to wear.

I told the young girl, O God, that we usually deserve the names we are given by others to wear. Names like: ‘loafer,’ ‘freeloader,’ ‘addict,’ and ‘friend’ are all earned names.

I said to her that she didn’t need to divorce and separate herself from her parents at all. They had already done that a long time ago. They had given up and discarded the good names they no longer deserved to wear.

No child should ever have to divorce her parents, dear Lord. No parent should ever make them want to.

Love,

Larry.

The 77% Weekly: The Religion-Outside-The-Box Newsletter
helps people find and be with (the) God (of their understanding) 40 out of 52 weeks a year.

Why 77%?
Two reasons:
1) 40/52 = 0.76923. The newsletter is sent every Monday except the last of each month.
2) In school 77% was a passing grade and ROTB wants to remind you that life isn’t graded.

A Letter

Beloved, Let me tell you something I often say when counseling those mourning the loss of a loved one. “Unless you are a rabbi or minister, you shouldn’t be good at writing eulogies.” And then I add: “Let me give you a pro tip—think about writing a letter. Because you know how to write a letter and this way you

Love. With Bread. ✧✧✧ I live in a very progressive city. But, not everyone is of one mind. In fact, three houses to the north live Merrilee and Sardar, who, prior to the 2020 election, posted a “Trump—MAGA 2020” sign in their yard. The day Biden was elected, I texted them that a number of my friends and I were
