Larry & Listening.
I was talking with my dear and best of friends Larry a few days ago on our drive home from the stained glass class we religiously attend.

Earlier that evening, a man had sauntered up to our table under the pretense of asking Larry a question about the Bible. But instead of ever asking a question, the man blathered his homespun, uneducated opinions about the origins of certain Biblical ordinances.

“Larry,” I asked, “Why didn’t you interrupt that man and set the record straight?”

My dear friend answered, “I already know what I would have said-I wouldn’t have learned anything from that. That man obviously wanted to talk, so I listened.”

Oh, how I love Larry.

With love,

Rabbi Brian

Ask R.Abbi – This Month’s Question

Dear R.Abbi,

I did something terrible. I kept a secret from someone for so long, and
I lied to cover it up, and yesterday guilt over came me and I told my
secret and now I think I lost one of the most important people in my
life. And I don’t know what to do. And I don’t know if they’ll ever
forgive me and I don’t know how I can live if they can’t.

What do I do?

This is taking every ounce of energy out of me, I feel trapped inside
of myself. It’s hard for me to function. I’m scared, too, because of
threats, because of harsh decisions, because of not knowing. It’s not
like I’ve committed an unforgivable sin, and I believe in karma, but
I’m not sure if what I did was nearly as bad as what I’m getting for
it.

Help me!

-Guilty

Dear Guilty,

The steps to forgiveness are acknowledging the wrong you have done,
making an honest amends. You can’t control if your . . .

With love,

R.Abbi.

The 77% Weekly

The 77% Weekly: The Religion-Outside-The-Box Newsletter
helps people find and be with (the) God (of their understanding) 40 out of 52 weeks a year.

Why 77%?
Two reasons:
1) 40/52 = 0.76923 and it is sent every Monday except the last of each month.
2) In school 77% was a passing grade and ROTB wants to remind you that life isn’t graded, it’s pass/fail.

Religion-Outside-The-Box is a donation-supported,
non-denominational, internet-based, 501c3-tax exempt religious congregation.

Stuff Gets To Me

✧✧✧ As I pack up to leave after my workout, someone asks me, “Hey, Rabbi, how are things going?” I’m not one for small talk. Especially after being called by my title. “Well,” I reply. “I’m sad.” “Why?” “I’m thinking about the girls who went to school in the morning in Minab, Iran—over a hundred of them—killed by a bomb.”

My Letter to Habakkuk

✧✧✧ To my dearest pen pal, Habbakuk: First, let me say, no one remembers the prophets who did not deliver on the goods. Your predictions came true. And, 2500+ years later, you are still remembered. Do you remember Lenny, that guy? Kept going around Judea telling people “the goats will lay down in green pastures,” and, then, remember? It started

Me, Rabbi.

✧✧✧   I am a rabbi.   I have a Masters Degree in Hebrew letters and a Doctorate of Divinity, and I am ordained as a rabbi.   I have each credential framed, in my office, just behind where I sit.   They’re not individually affixed to the wall—they lean against one another in a stack.   I like the
