Live

Join me
and other members of Religion-Outside-The-Box
– from around the globe –
for ROTB_live.

ROTB_live is something between an interactive religious service and a classroom discussion.

This time we will talk about FREEDOM – the major theme of Passover and Easter.

Get spiritual help where you are. Use any computer, tablet, or smart phone to join the converstaion live. Or watch it later. It’s up to you.

I know a lot of things about spirituality. And, I quote some groovy folk, from Shanti-Deva and Thomas Merton to Rabbi and Prince.

OK, maybe. Maybe not. I can’t really control this.

Some Questions & Answers

It’s a gathering. Because I have felt a calling to serve people who are connected in and yet need to be connected with.
A web service.
Religion-Outside-The-Box.
Not a service that is on re-run.
It’s live.
I have an outline for way more than an hour’s worth of material. This is nothing stodgy.
This gathering is::

  1. Novel
  2. Simple
  3. Engaging
  4. Fun
  5. Practical

Because I am a WONDERFUL educator and rabbi.
It’s like I am throwing a party and inviting my friends. And, chances are if you are reading these words we have some connection.
I’m the Brene Brown of religion. (Is that too much to say?)
I am a performance artist in the spiritual realm.
I am rational and believe in ethical culture.
And, I’m on a Blues Brother’s type mission from God.

First, if you don’t think you are going to like it, then, don’t join it. Please.
But, if you think you are going to like it, you do it, and then you realized you didn’t like it, please let me know. I will attempt to make amends. Full refund of your $ and I will attempt to return you to your previous state of mind.

ROTB_live is best experienced live with loved ones and then processed afterward with loved ones.
No. You don’t have to be there live. But, think about this: while you could potentially learn the tuba from only watching YouTube videos, it’s just not a great way of learning.  Live interaction is better. Nonetheless, I will record it. And, I’ll send it to anyone who signs up.

YES! It is encouraged! I would love you to do this with a friend!
If you are in the same location and you can sit close, do it. Put ROTB_live up on a big screen and let’s do this big time.

If you are in different locations, you can both log on and be able to see and interact with each other.

While I don’t encourage passing notes, the technology is there for people to text each other.

I really want you to invite someone to join you.
And, really, $18 is the single ticket price – I’m just doing a buy-one-get-one-free deal.
OK, you want just one $10 ticket, click here.

I like the idea of you having something to drink. I’ll bring my own beverage and I’m encouraging you to bring your own too. As this happening where you are, it would be really hard for me to get the drink(s) to you. So, you have to bring your own drink. Also, I like the idea of a community where we all can raise a toast of “L’Chaim” – “To life.”
Also, having drinks makes this feel a little more like I’m doing a stand-up show than a religious service, which is kinda groovy.
You don’t need to bring a drink.
I just like the idea.

I, Rabbi Brian, have gotten into the habit of putting the words (he/him) after my name.
Why?
From https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/44dmer/what_is_the_deal_with_hehim_sheher_theythem/?st=j7f90vkc&sh=930ae361″:

It has to do with gender identity. Sometimes people who are assigned one gender at birth – for example female – don’t feel comfortable with the pronouns labeling them. Perhaps they would like to be referred to by male pronouns or by gender neutral pronouns. People will also use it sometimes if they present themselves rather androgynous-ly so that people who are interacting with them can be sure to use the correct pronouns.

So, (he/him) is there after my name for solidarity.

I’ve got you. I’ve talked people through this. If you have figured out how to get these words on the screen, you can do this. Larry, my 80-year-old BFF can do this. On the other hand, my godmother, Alice, she’s not been able to make the technology work.
So, I cannot promise.

Yes. It’s both.
And neither.
It’s a talk.
Ish.
A discussion led by an expert educator who happens to be an ordained rabbi… what would you call that?

You’ve cried at a movie or watching a movie at home. Right? You’ve done it.
I’ve met with scores of people via the internet (doing spiritual direction, counseling clergy-folk, teaching classes) and we’ve all felt intimate. Real gods-honest emotion gets shared time and time again on the web. Come and experience it yourself.
Look at the testimonials. This works.

I use zoom. It’s like a web-classroom. Like Skype, but better. You can see me, I can see you, we can both see the other participants. Think the opening sequence of the Brady Bunch.
As of now, I’m not using FaceBook live because that isn’t as interactive. And, I want you there. Not too disctracted.
You can choose NOT to share your camera?
Of course!  However, you most note: I will give slight preferential treatment to those who have video enabled.
Don’t panic about the technology too much.
Here’s a sample log-in room.
You can try it right now. (I’m not going to be in there, most probably. It’s a test room.)

I know the dollars aren’t exchanging so favorably for you these days. If $18 for two tickets is too much of a hardship for you, email me and I’ll send you a special link so that you are paying the same amount but in Canadian dollars.

You can do audio only.
I slightly favor video participants, but am learning to make this work just as well for those who want to listen only.

I am limited by technology to 100 in the session. In the past we’ve had more than 50. And, we’ve had smaller than 10 – that was the first one.)

I’m glad you asked.

Click this link.

If we have a relationship and you tell me you are going to send me $, I’ll sign you up. Then, send me some $.

If we don’t have a relationship as of yet, consider using PayPal or emailing me. There is a bit of information at the bottom of this page, too.

Ask me. I’ll answer it.  You have my email address or fB page…

Testimonials

My mind was blown. I’m digesting the information still.

Everyone actually DID some spiritual yoga. I was not really expecting the level by which it affected people. And, me.

I enjoyed it lots and felt moved by how much realer it was than traditional services. Feeding babies, dogs barking, side convos and wine refills…Cosmic Mother is in that stuff and we so rarely get to see it. So, thanks for pulling the curtain back a bit so that could rise in my awareness.
I am looking forward to the next one.

I enjoyed the sense of community you were able to create over technology with different folks from all parts of the continent.
I so enjoyed how you kept things friendly, low-key, open, etc. I’m not one for organized religion, and enjoy(ed) how you mix issues of morality and humanity and spirituality and real life all together with a sprinkle of religion on top.

ROTB_live is about an hour.  It has a somewhat of a “religious experience” and “soul movement” vibe.

It’s no service that I learned to run while in rabbinical school. (There is no Hebrew or rote prayers.) It’s kind of an interactive, reality show hosted by a rabbi who is part Pope Francis and part Brene Brown.

The therapeutic value, wisdom, tools, and joy in this program are valued at more than $287. (I made that number up. But, I could justify it because I know four people who were a part of past ROTB_live events told me that their aha moments were worth hundreds!)
