Vacation Giveaway!

Would you like to:

  • relax with nothing to do?
  • not have to answer your calls or e-mails?
  • sit comfortably and just daydream?

You can!
Absolutely free!

Religion-Outside-The-Box is giving away free vacations to all ROTB members!

Here’s how it works:

  • Decide how long a vacation you would like to have.
  • Don’t schedule anything for that amount of time!

Most
of us only seem to be able to relax and “not do” when we are away from
home. We know that we could schedule time to not do anything, but we
don’t.

Why not?

Chances are you know the location of a comfortable chair.

Why
not schedule a 30-minute vacation there – not watching TV – relaxing as
you would if you were on a beach chair miles from home?

The
concept I’m talking about is nothing more radical than the
spiritual-religious notion of a Sabbath – time off. Need more info?
I’ve written a number of articles and recorded some podcasts about it.
(Click for a read or listen: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

I
want to thank my later-day-Hasidic friend, Jesse for being part of the
inspiration for this article. He told me about being stuck in a motel,
wishing he were relaxing on a warm beach instead. He realized he could
get close by going into the bathroom, laying out a towel, turning on
the overhead heat lamp, putting on a headset to listen to some
downloaded nature sounds, and creating his own vacation.

Spiritual-religious advice for the week: Schedule some down-time.

With love,

Rabbi Brian

The 77% Weekly

The 77% Weekly: The Religion-Outside-The-Box Newsletter
helps people find and be with (the) God (of their understanding) 40 out of 52 weeks a year.

Why 77%?
Two reasons:
1) 40/52 = 0.76923. The newsletter is sent every Monday except the last of each month.
2) In school 77% was a passing grade and ROTB wants to remind you that life isn’t graded, it’s pass/fail.

Religion-Outside-The-Box is a donation-supported,
non-denominational, internet-based, 501c3-tax exempt religious congregation.

Stuff Gets To Me

✧✧✧ As I pack up to leave after my workout, someone asks me, “Hey, Rabbi, how are things going?” I’m not one for small talk. Especially after being called by my title. “Well,” I reply. “I’m sad.” “Why?” “I’m thinking about the girls who went to school in the morning in Minab, Iran—over a hundred of them—killed by a bomb.”

My Letter to Habakkuk

✧✧✧ To my dearest pen pal, Habbakuk: First, let me say, no one remembers the prophets who did not deliver on the goods. Your predictions came true. And, 2500+ years later, you are still remembered. Do you remember Lenny, that guy? Kept going around Judea telling people “the goats will lay down in green pastures,” and, then, remember? It started

Me, Rabbi.

✧✧✧   I am a rabbi.   I have a Masters Degree in Hebrew letters and a Doctorate of Divinity, and I am ordained as a rabbi.   I have each credential framed, in my office, just behind where I sit.   They’re not individually affixed to the wall—they lean against one another in a stack.   I like the
