WE SHALL OVERCOME

The gunman. I will not use his name. He has woken in me an eternal truth that comforts me.

Some are born with darker skin, gay, or are otherwise categorized outside of “normal,” I was born Jewish.

His hate for me stems from some sense that I could choose otherwise.

That I could renounce my ways. That I could be redeemed. But, I am unrepentantly a Jew.
I choose to be Jewish, just as the Jewish doctors who operated on him chose to operate on him. I choose to believe in humanity. I choose to believe the words of Zechariah 4:6. “Not by might and not by power, but by spirit alone shall all be redeemed.”

Me, like millions before me. Deep in my heart. I do believe.

WE SHALL OVERCOME SOMEDAY.

Because you know how to write a letter and this way you

With Bread

In fact, three houses to the north live Merrilee and Sardar, who, prior to the 2020 election, posted a “Trump—MAGA 2020” sign in their yard. The day Biden was elected, I texted them that a number of my friends and I were
